How FET Helps - A Step by Step Guide
The thought of assisted reproductive technology can be daunting for aspiring parents who mostly lack the medical information about the FET procedure. To help you understand the process, here is a frozen embryo transfer process step by step guide to walk you through the entire IVF frozen embryo transfer timeline.
- Oestrogen Hormonal Therapy : The procedure begins with hormonal therapy in which the patient is provided with oestrogen supplements for around three weeks which helps in the thickening of the endometrium lining of the uterus. Once the thickening of the wall has reached the desired level, the hormone progesterone is introduced. In biologically ovulating women, a natural FET procedure is employed which doesn’t require introduction to hormonal therapy.
- Embryo Implantation : After two to three days of progesterone introduction, the embryo is transferred into the uterus using a catheter device.
- Tracking Hormonal Levels & Pregnancy Test : Around two weeks after the implantation of the embryo, a serum pregnancy test is done, followed by serum progesterone analysis in case the pregnancy test is affirmative. Should the procedure be unsuccessful, a regular, naturally occurring menstruation cycle takes place.
- Doctor Consultations : After a positive pregnancy test result is achieved, regular doctor consultations will be required to track and ensure the embryo’s healthy development using sonograms.

Difficulties in fertilisation can surface due to various reasons but couples particularly facing the following issues can easily choose to opt for FET:
